About Us
The youth team at the Norfolk EDA has 3 people, all dedicated to supporting young
people in their own ways. It is our hope that every young person that contacts
us will connect with one of us, and we are happy to work with the needs of every
individual. We are:
Susie
Susie
is a support worker with Norfolk EDA Youth Project. She works with a
lot of young people who are struggling with food. Her job is to listen, support,
encourage and try to help the young person to find practical solutions to their
problems.
Here is an introduction from Susie:
"I started working in eating disorders
seven years ago – one of
the most important things I’ve learned in that time is that an eating
disorder affects every person differently. The young people I talk to each
have their own unique story and every one is equally valuable and interesting.
It's great to see that once people start talking about how they feel
improvements can happen really quickly. The fact that we work online and by
phone and text
encourages
more
young people
to come
forward.
I love my job."
Diane
Diane is from Canada and has a funny accent, so don't be surprised if you catch
her on the phone! She came to Norwich to study art, and, walking past the Colegate
centre one day, saw a sign for volunteer work at NEDA. Three years later, she
is still here, and works with
both
young people
and all the volunteers at the centre. She is responsible for a lot of the writing
and updating of our materials and loves suggestions on how we can improve our
website. You can email her your thoughts by clicking the link here.
Here is an introduction from Diane:
"I am still learning a lot everyday about eating disorders and how to help
people overcome them. I am so glad that I joined the youth team, because I've
met a
lot
of
great
young
people and I can see how important the work we do is for them. My biggest wish
is that the label of having an Eating Disorder not be such a frightening prospect
for young people. I think it's very sad that there are so many people out there
that
are hiding in secret and can't tell anyone how they feel."
Mary
Mary has lived in Norfolk for the last 13 years and is the Psychotherapist for
the NEDA Youth Project. Mary has been working in the field of eating disorders
for about 9 years and with NEDA specifically for about 4 years. She loves working
with young people and helping them unravel the emotional torment that often underpins
and fuels
eating related problems.
MBACP (Accred).
Here is an introduction from Mary:
"I love my work as a counsellor and psychotherapist and feel so privileged
to have met and worked with so many young people and adults who have been affected
by this really powerful illness, an eating disorder. Don’t be put off by
the title ‘psychotherapist’ it’s just the name the professionals
give to us but I reckon it does sound a bit scary sometimes. I’m just an
ordinary person like you and alongside Susie and Diane want to help you beat
the problems you are experiencing. Have a chat and some one-to one support sessions
with Susie or Diane first and if you feel you would like some therapy with me
then they will refer you."
