Information about binge eating disorder

Binge eating disorder, or B.E.D, is an illness that often makes the sufferer turn to food as a way of coping with difficult emotions, such as stress, anxiety, depression etc.

There are many different reasons that someone might suffer from B.E.D, one of the main reasons is emotional stress/anxiety. If you have or are suffering from stress or anxiety because of school, homelife, relationships, bullying or anything that makes you feel unhappy or worried, this could be the reason for your eating disorder.

One of the best ways to try and tackle this kind of issue is through counselling or psychotherapy. There is not a lot of of difference between both of these lines of support, they both help the person to work out what the issues are, offering a space where you can talk about difficult issues in confidence without having to worry about what people might think.

Some syptoms of B.E.D are:
  • Excessive overeating
  • Depression/Low self esteem
  • Fluctuations in weight
  • Chest pain
  • Breathing problems
  • Feelings of guilt, discust or shame
  • Finding comfort in food
  • Binge eating (eating massive amounts of food) in secret and at odd times
  • Eating when not even hungry
