Information about Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is an illness that often makes the sufferer turn to food as a way of coping with difficult emotions, such as stress, anxiety, or depression. Bulimia often makes people eat excessively and then throw up some/all of the food. Sometimes sufferers take laxatives/diuretics instead of making themself sick.

There are many different reasons that someone might suffer from Bulimia Nervosa, one of the main reasons is emotional stress/anxiety. If you have or are suffering from stress or anxiety because of school, homelife, relationships, bullying or anything that makes you feel unhappy or worried, this could be the reason for your eating disorder.

One of the best ways to try and tackle this kind of issue is through counselling or psychotherapy. There is not a lot of of difference between both of these lines of support, they both help the person to work out what the issues are, offering a space where you can talk about difficult issues in confidence without having to worry about what people might think.

Some symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa are:
  • Binge eating
  • Sore throat
  • Dehydration
  • Depresion, anxiety, mood swings
  • Feelings of withdrawl
